Strong close gives Abney Dub Ellis lead
CENTRE — Bo Abney closed with an eagle-birdie-birdie finish Saturday and opened a three-shot lead after the opening round of the Dub Ellis Invitational at Cherokee County Country Club.
Abney, a teacher and coach from Acworth, Ga., shot 30 on the back nine for a 9-under-par 63.
Jeremy McGatha is second (66), followed by Matt Rogers and David Garrett at 67. Kenneth Patterson rounds out the top five.
