Gary Wigington goes into Championship Sunday of the Calhoun County Championship with a three-shot lead over Jeremy McGatha.
Here are some numbers to ponder as he goes after his record-tying sixth County Championship and third straight County Player of the Year award.
He has had four straight rounds – and five of his last seven – in the 60s.
Six of his last seven rounds have been under par.
He has played his last four rounds in 25-under-par, making 30 birdies. He has had 42 birdies in his last seven rounds.
His final-round stroke average in his previous three Tour events is 68.3, including a 63 the final day at Pine Hill. Jeremy McGatha’s final-round stroke average in his previous three Tour events is 72.0.
“I’ve just been real confident with my short game and everything has been about as good as I’ve done all year,” Wigington said. “I don’t play a whole lot during the winter so I’m always kind of being when the season starts in April, but this time of year I usually, for some reason, start playing good because I’ve been playing a lot, practicing a lot more.
“Since about the Sunny King on I’ve just been playing really good, real consistent, real solid. I feel confident over everything.”
The leaders tee off at Cane Creek Golf Course at 11:40 a.m. Follow easportstoday1 on Twitter for regular updates on the final group and check into www.easportstoday.com for a complete report when it’s over.
