FLORENCE — Donoho coach Shannon Felder probably couldn’t have asked for a more dominating season opener.
Justin Foster rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns, two quarterbacks completed every pass they threw and the defense held its opponent to negative net yardage rushing as the Falcons swamped Shoals Christian 42-0.
“We ran the ball pretty good, the line blocked well and the defense, for the first game, I thought those guys played excellent,” Felder said. “We’ve certainly got a lot of improvement to make, but I was certainly impressed with our focus and effort and the way we played together as a unit.
“We certainly want to build on that.”
With Foster and Chandler Collins (102) both rushing for more than 100 yards, the Falcons rolled up 344 yards on the ground as a team. Foster scored on runs of 61 and 40 yards. Collins scored on a 59-yard run.
Collins and Trey Brown were a combined 6-for-6 passing. Brown had a hand in each of Donoho’s first two touchdowns, throwing a 42-yard pass to Dalten Martin to open the scoring and running 1 yard for another score. Ben Myrick scored Donoho’s other touchdown on a 6-yard run.
The defense, led by Parker Morgan (nine tackles) and Foster (eight), held Shoals Christian to three first downs and 25 net yards of total offense. The shutout was their first in a season opener since blanking Decatur Heritage Christian 14-0 in 2011; that team wound up going 11-2. The Falcons posted a shutout against Woodville in their fourth game last season.
