OXFORD – The Weaver wrestling team tuned up for its appearance in this weekend’s tournament at Moody by splitting a tri-match with McAdory and Oxford.
The Bearcats defeated McAdory 60-18 and lost to Oxford 39-36.
Nick Souder (106), Kyle Clapper (138), Logan Johnson (160), Chase Rodgers (195), Matt Elston (220) and Caleb Allison (285) all picked up two victories for Weaver. Allison came within inches of pinning Oxford’s heavyweight to send that match into a tiebreaker, but couldn’t get the shoulders completely down.
Souder improved to 17-1. Clapper is 14-3, Johnson 14-5, Elston 9-3 and Allison 16-2. The Bearcats are 10-3 in dual matches, with the three losses coming to a 7A school and two 6As.
“Some of my better wrestlers drew some really tough ones,” Weaver coach Andy Fulmer said. “they had a couple guys who beat some of my better wrestlers, but I was pleased with our kids’ effort. They got after it and didn’t quit.”
Fulmer is hopeful of receiving several favorable seedings in this weekend’s Austin Hamer Invitational at Moody.
