Chase Rogers gained a measure of revenge for his loss in the Rumble in the Jungle semifinals over the weekend when he beat Lane Burtram of St. Clair County 7-6 in Weaver’s tri-match sweep of St. Clair County (60-18) and Ohatchee (43-30).
Rogers, Nick Souder (30-1), Christian Pettus, Kyle Clapper, Jacob Howard, Logan Johnson and Collin Allison all went 2-0 for the Bearcats, who are now 12-3 in dual matches.
Alexandria splits with Pell City, Cleburne County
Daniel Longoria scored the necessary pin at 220 to lift the Alexandria wrestling team to a 36-35 victory over Pell City in a tri-match that also featured Cleburne County.
The Valley Cubs lost to Cleburne County 61-21. They did win four of the seven bouts contested, but gave up too many points to empty weight classes.
“We had small victories tonight,” Cubs coach Frank Hartzog said. “Hopefully they will energize us to work hard and prepare for the rest of the season.”
