The girls from Anniston and Parker had played two games a lot closer than the Bulldogs would have liked earlier this season and the last one at least Carsheuna “Cadillac” Curry took personally. One game was decided by a point and the other went to overtime.
There was nothing close about Wednesday night’s 56-12 Anniston victory, especially after the first quarter.
“The last game I felt I was the reason we had a close game and today I wanted to redeem myself,” Curry said. “I felt like that because I was lacking on defense, giving up easy points and not boxing out on the boards.
“We played great position defense today. Everybody was on point. Their heads were in the game.”
Even coach Eddie Bullock had to agree it was “by far” the seventh-ranked Bulldogs’ best defensive game of the year. They held the Lady Bison to single digits in every quarter and didn’t allow them a field goal over the 2 1-2 quarters.
“They were flying around and that’s what we’re trying to get to,” he said. “Offensively your shot can be off, but your defense should never be off. That’s something you should come out and hang our hat on. They really did a tremendous job with that today. I’m extremely proud of how they all played defense. It was great.”
Of course, being a coach, he had to have one complaint. The Bulldogs were 12 of 24 from the free throw line for the game.
“We’re a good free throw shooting team, but we were 0-for-6 on our first free throws and you can’t do that and be a good team,” he said.
Once again Bullock was able to unload the bench and seven of the nine Bulldogs who played scored. Miajah Bullock and Kiyana Bullock had 16 points apiece. Cooley had eight, with two 3-pointers.
