The intensity and physicality of the game gave the night a feel of a playoff game instead of a regular-season matchup between teams from different classification as Faith Christian battled past Ohatchee 61-50 Thursday night.

The Lions (14-9) looked like they were going to run away and hide in the first quarter as they jumped out 16-6 on five points from Logan Williamson and four from Jack Sills. They extended the lead to 22-8 on two 3s from Alex Taylor before Ohatchee (6-18) came to life and picked up their intensity.

Ben Glass drilled a 3-pointer and a 2 and the battle was on. Ohatchee would cut it to 6 points seven times the rest of the way and each time Faith would pull back ahead by double digits.

”It was a war out there and a very physical game, and like a playoff game,” Lions coach Bradley Dawson said. “I thought it was really too physical a game.”

Bodies were flying all over the place as the referees let them play. The Indians’ student body brought out the cowbells and the gym was rocking with noise as the Indians cut it to 55-50 with 1:45 to go despite missing six free throws in the fourth quarter. Faith missed four free throws as well down the stretch, but scored the last six points of the game to win by 11.

“They kept making shots and every time I would start to get comfortable here they would come with five or six points in a row,” Dawson said. “We usually shoot a little better on the free throws and did in the first half. But any win is a good win and we were glad to get out of there with a win.”

Jordan Griswold and Logan Williamson had 12 points apiece to lead Faith. Taylor and Sills added nine each.

Ohatchee got 13 points and 11 rebounds from Brian Jennings who was a beast on the boards. Micah Lee contributed 11 points and Austin Tucker and Ben Glass had nine each.

BIRMINGHAM — Paul Lester hit a shot as the clock ran out to lead to cap Jefferson Christian’s rally.

It was another fourth-quarter loss for the tough-luck Panthers in a year that has seen many leads slip away in the final quarter against some very good teams. They led 48-45 entering the fourth quarter.

Sophomore’s Blake Hanson and Jordan Montgomery came out hot and helped the Panthers open a 17-10 lead. The Eagles cut it to 30-29 at halftime, but Wellborn managed to stay ahead.

The Eagles stayed in the game with seven 3-pointers. Lester ended up with 22 points in the game.

Hanson led the Panthers with 16 points. Montgomery had 15 and Corri Tignor had 11.
