Nathan Gilbert had a knack for delivering in the clutch for the White Plains basketball team this past winter. Now, he’s delivering the same way for the Wildcats’ golf team.
Playing at No. 5, Gilbert shot 2-over-par 38 and was credited by his coach for being the difference in the Wildcats’ wins over Oxford and Donoho at Pine Hill Tuesday.
The Wildcats posted 150, while Oxford and Donoho both posted 157. It was White Plains’ second win in as many days.
“A good start is always nice, but we have a lot to work on,” White Plains coach Marcus Harrell said.
Donoho’s Jacob Lecroy was medalist with a 1-under-par 35. White Plains’ Dustin Travis, a Montevallo commitment, and Oxford’s Tyler Putnam both shot 36. The Wildcats also counted 38s from Layton Bussey and Trevor Lane.
“Nathan pulled us through today,” Harrell said.
And that’s a good sign for the future, the Wildcats say.
“Going forward it feels great to know that we can count on him,” Bussey said. “He’s getting back in the groove from basketball, but he’s getting it now. I knew he could do it and we are really going to need it.”
In the girls match, White Plains beat Oxford and Donoho with a team score of 121. It was their first wins of the season. White Plains’ Layne Dyar was medalist with 38.
