PIEDMONT – Left-hander Kendall Pressley pitched a no-hitter and the Bulldogs’ bats came alive in an 11-0 rout of Weaver in a Class 3A Area 12 softball game.
Piedmont had been struggling to score runs of late, but that was not a problem Thursday. The Bulldogs (7-9) went over 10 runs in a game for the second time this year.
Pressley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Torre Roberts was 2-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs’ attack. They’re pictured on the cover.
Piedmont will play Oneonta Friday in the Oxford Spring Sting Tournament at Oxford Lake.
Weaver drops to 1-9 on the season with the loss.

Freshman Presley Whitten fired a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and slammed a two-run double in the Class 1A, Area 12 game.
The Lions (5-8) broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jasmyne Groce and Sara Christjohn reached on base hits and scored. They added three more in the fifth as Logan Boyd doubled, Annakeri Davis singled and Whitten doubled. Kristin Covington, Hannah Reynolds and Cornelia Simpson singled in the sixth inning for an insurance run.
“I was not pleased with our hitting today,” Faith coach Bradley Dawson said. “We had too many strike-outs (seven). We are not swinging at good pitches. I was pleased with our defense and pitching.”
Whitten allowed only three base runners. Briah Cupp had both hits for JCA (2-3). Sidney Hancock was the Thunder’s only other base runner, reaching on a walk.
