OXFORD — The Faith Christian soccer team solidified its top 10 rating in the Eurosportscorecard.com statewide poll Friday by picking up back-to-back wins over Leeds and Moody in the Yellow Jackets Invitational Tournament.
The Lions shut out Leeds 5-0 and dumped Moody 6-2.
“We played 140 minutes against two solid teams tonight and are exhausted,” Lions coach Erik McDaniel said. “Our kids have shown amazing resilience. I am so proud of them.
“Moody is the No. 4 team in the state in (Class) 4A-5A, so we were hungry and played like we had something to prove even though we played a young, well-coached, quality Leeds team right before them. I am so impressed with our kids. I can’t say enough about their work rate.”
In the first game, Tyler Johnson scored three goals and Caleb McCord turned back six shots in recording the shutout. Josiah McDaniel had a goal and an assist, Ryan Crosby scored on a penalty kick and Andrew Gattrell had two assists.
Johnson scored four goals in the Moody match. Josiah McDaniel again had a goal and an assist, Crosby scored on another penalty kick and Gattrell had two more assists.
McCord had nine saves in the match.
The Lions are 7-0.
“We will not play a better team all year than we played tonight,” Moody coach Shane Parker said.
