RAGLAND — It was like a trip back in time Tuesday night at the historic quaint softball park chocked full of history.
The Lady Purple Devils have won three state championships in five years and four in the last decade. Banners adorn their fences all across the outfield.
A packed crowd welcomed the top-ranked Class 1A team in the state as they came home and took care of business defeating Ashville 15-5 in a game called in the fifth inning.
The Purple Devils (11-2), coached by Jonathan Nix (cover photo), scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. They pounded 18 hits and took advantage of seven Ashville errors.
Junior shortstop Callie Kay and junior first baseman Kassidy St. John had four hits apiece to lead the Purple Devils. Kay drove in four runs and St John drove in three.
Carly Echols added three hits as the top four hitters in the Ragland order were on base 15 of 19 trips to the plate.
