By East Alabama Sports Today
There will be a heavy pro presence in Calhoun County the next 10 days with two events involving professional golfers.
The young pros are first on the docket in the Fort McClellan Credit Union Pro-Invitational at Cane Creek Golf Course starting Friday. There are currently 13 players registered for the pro segment of the event.
The pros will play 54 holes, while the amateurs play 36 holes starting Saturday. Entries for both sides of the event will be taken up to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Former Anniston resident Nick Rousey committed to play but made sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open and won’t be available. Big Break winner Jimmy Brandt, a regular in the field, had been contacted about playing, but reportedly has a post-Big Break conflict that prevents him from playing this week.
The senior pro set takes center stage starting next Monday in the Sunbelt Senior Tour’s Oxford Senior Open at Cider Ridge Golf Club. A field of 14 senior pros will play in the pro-am Monday, then play 54 holes for prize money starting Tuesday.
