GADSDEN — Former Alexandria golfer Jessica Howard advanced in the second flight of the 83rd Women’s State Amateur Championship at Gadsden Country Club.
Howard, the No. 4 seed, defeated April Godsey of Rainbow City in the quarterfinals Wednesday, 7 and 6, and will face top-seeded Alexis Berger of Alabaster in Thursday’s 9:04 a.m. semifinal.
Jan Berry of Madison and Melanie Smith are Hoover are the other semifinalists in the flight.
Howard pulled away from a match that was all square through three holes to win the next six holes to the turn.
ACE IN THE CROWD: Ron Wheeler scored a hole-in-one on No. 3 at Cider Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday. The hole was playing 161 yards and he used a 6-iron. The shot was witnessed by Jerry Flummer, Michael Herndon and Dickie Brittain.
