Jeremy Wallace’s promotion to assistant principal at Alexandria Elementary School means Pleasant Valley is in the market for another head coach.
Wallace was approved for the position by the Calhoun County School Board on Wednesday.
Because Calhoun County prohibits administrators from coaching, Wallace has had to give up his post as PV’s girls basketball coach with the Lady Raiders on the rise.
“I wish you could (do both),” Wallace said. “I want to be a principal. I hate to leave the team now, but if I don’t take this now there’s no telling (when the opportunity presents again).”
PV principal Mark Proper said Wednesday he wouldn’t start working on finding Wallace’s successor until Monday.
Since February, the Raiders have replaced a head football coach, a boys basketball coach and now a girls basketball coach.
In his two most recent years with the Lady Raiders Wallace took a team that had won four games the year before he took over to a team that won 17 games, shared the area title (losing a coin flip for the No. 1 seed) and reached the semifinals of the Calhoun County Girls Tournament. They were 17-11 this past season.
“Watching them make that turnaround I was glad to be around for the ride,” Wallace said. “I gave them a little direction and they took off with it. And they’re not done yet.”
