White Plains is moving quickly to find its next baseball coach, but can’t offer the job until the posting closes a week from Monday.
Two candidates interviewed Thursday – current Oxford assistant coach Wes Henderson and former Oxford pitching coach Cale Wright.
White Plains principal Andy Ward confirmed Henderson is “a leading candidate” and the interviews, but said he hasn’t been offered the job.
Wright, a former Troy pitcher, is now the Yellow Jackets’ golf coach. Henderson is a former All-State first baseman at Oxford who played collegiately at Alabama.
“I’m not allowed by state law to offer (anyone) until that job closes,” Ward said.
The job was posted Monday, the day former Wildcats coach Chad Hudson told his team he was leaving to become head coach at Arab. The Arab school board approved Hudson on Friday.
