GADSDEN — Marty Dixon, who coached boys area champions and contenders at Ragland and Pell City, has taken over the women’s basketball program at Gadsden State.
He has been working at the school since the beginning of the week and was formally approved Thursday.
Dixon initially left coaching and teaching for family reasons. He admits he’ll be “coming in sight unseen” with most of his players and joked he had to raid men’s coach Todd Ginn’s locker for a whistle, but plans to introduce the team to an up-tempo, 90-foot game when it gathers Aug. 19.
It’ll be his first women’s basketball coaching assignment, although he has coached girls softball before.
He is expected to have a veteran team. One of his incoming freshmen is former Jacksonville guard Angel Kidd.
