[corner-ad id=1]Indians score 34 first-quarter points on the way to their first home win since 2012

OHATCHEE — The Ohatchee Indians opened their second season under coach Scott Martin with another one-sided victory over Southeastern School, but this time they played better.
The Indians scored their first home victory in three years Friday with a 48-0 rout of the Mustangs. A year ago they won 37-0, but turned the ball over too frequently to feel really good about it.
On this night, they scored five touchdowns and 34 points in the first quarter and the only turnover they had in the game came on a deflected pass.
“I think we’re a different football team,” Martin said. “The result was the same, but I think our kids have a different goal in mind. They played with a lot of intensity.
“I have a team that even though we don’t have a lot of seniors we have a lot of the same kids from last year. I saw a lot of good things and a lot to build off. I thought it was productive, better than playing yourself.”
The Indians used eight different carries to run the ball 32 times for 284 yards. Austin Tucker led the way with 170 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. He scored all his touchdowns in the first quarter.
Tucker, a junior, was on the way to a 1,000-yard season last year when a concussion derailed his progress.
“I think he ran extremely hard,” Martin said. “He has great vision. He picked up where he left off last year, but only gotten bigger.”
With the win, the Indians snapped a 10-game home losing streak. The last time they won at home, they routed Victory Christian 67-6 on Nov. 26, 2012. The last time they won their home opener was 2010.
