LAFAYETTE — Calvin Figueroa tuned up for the playoffs in a big way.
The powerful Saks running back went over the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season when he ran for 325 yards and five touchdowns Thursday in the Wildcats’ 63-34 win over 2A LaFayette.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats (8-2) have scored 63 points in each of the two games since they lost to Cleburne County for the Class 4A Region 6 title.
It’s the second year in a row Saks has scored at least 63 in back-to-back games and the sixth time the Wildcats have scored at least 60 in a game in the last three seasons. They put 63 on the Bulldogs (6-4) when the teams played last year.
Figueroa, who now stands at 2,014 yards rushing as the Wildcats head into postseason play, scored on runs of 1, 5, 58, 73 and 19 yards.
He wasn’t the only one inflicting damage as the Wildcats racked up 557 yards of total offense.
Demetrius Powell had 111 yards of total offense. He rushed for 78 and touchdowns of 31 and 19 yards. Quin Smith completed 3 of 6 passes for 74 yards and rushed for 21 more. And Rodney Reddick rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown.
The defense even got into the act. Quay McCord returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
