BOYS GAMES
Lincoln 71, Weaver 58: Tyler Hemphill led four Golden Bears in double figures with 18 points. Zay Caldwell had 16, L.J. Carmichael 11 and Dee Whiteside 10. Jalen Heath led Weaver with 18 points. Delo Forbes and Malik Arnold had 12 each. The Bearcats struggled at the line, going 6-for-16.
Talladega 70, Etowah 40: Jay Smoot had 21 points and Robert Houston scored a double-double for the second game in a row. Jarvis McKenzie had nine points and six steals. Houston had 10 points and 10 boards (to go with 16 and 10 on opening night).
“Robert has been very consistent,” Talladega coach Chuck Miller said. “He has hit some of his post-up shots and continues to rebound every play. I expect a double-double from him each night.”
GIRLS GAMES
Weaver 60, Lincoln 37: Rayne Beck scored 20 points and did an amazing defensive job on Lincoln sophomore Amaz Carmichael in the first half as the Bearcats improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2004. Carmichael, a 6-3 sophomore who went for 42 the other night, had 27 in the game, but only 10 in the first half as Weaver rolled out to a 41-12 lead.
