Pleasant Valley guard has triple-double as Lady Raiders get area win over Weaver; Alexandria overwhelms Lincoln
By East Alabama Sports Today
WEAVER – Atleigh Brannon played what coach Brad Hood called “her best game of the season,” scoring a triple-double as No. 10 Pleasant Valley scored a 59-52 area victory over Weaver.
Brannon scored 13 points, dealt 11 assists and recorded 10 steals. She was one of four PV scorers in double figures. Mckinley Parris had 16, Kara Perry had 14 and Mikala Simpson had 10.
“Kara was big with her court presence,” Hood said of his post player who had been hobbled with a knee injury.
Weaver’s Caliegh Cortez led all scorers with 26 points. She had 13 in the fourth quarter as the Lady Bearcats tried to rally from 19 down. They missed a 3-pointer with 1:25 left that would have cut their deficit to three.
“We’re just making too many mistakes early and then playing our tails off trying to win,” Weaver coach Gary Atchley said. “Love my team and we will win these games eventually. … We are getting better and better every game. We’re going to be something for people the second half of the season.”
