Girls roundup: Stephens, Boyd fight through fevers to lead Faith; also included: Wellborn-Weaver, White Plains, Ohatchee, Oxford

Beware of the sick golfer, they say. Apparently, beware of the sick basketball player, too.
Madison Stephens and Logan Boyd both were fighting through triple-digit fevers Tuesday night, but that didn’t stop them from being as effective as they’ve been all season.
Stephens scored 26 points and Boyd had 23 as the Lady Lions improved to 5-0 in their area with a 64-30 rout of winless Donoho. Boyd hit five 3-pointers.
“I was proud of them,” Faith coach Bradley Dawson said. “They were sick enough they didn’t think about was going on, they just played.
“When I had good games in high school it was whenever I was sick. You don’t think about all the bad stuff that’s going on and just play.”
Stephens was so under the weather Dawson told her not to come to Monday’s game ever as a spectator and Boyd hadn’t been to the previous few practices.
“I expected Madison to be Madison, but I didn’t expect her to go off for 26,” Dawson said. “Logan came to the shoot around yesterday and didn’t miss a shot. Tonight, as soon as she touched the ball I don’t think she touched the rim. I didn’t expect her to play as well as she did.”
The Lady Lions (5-5) don’t have activities planned for today. As much as they need the practice, Dawson said, they need healthy players for the stretch run more.
Wellborn 69, Weaver 57: The teams staged an old-fashioned three-player shootout and the difference was Wellborn had two of the principals. Vanessa Carter scored 33 points and Ayanna Foster had 22, nearly outscoring the Lady Bearcats by themselves. Caleigh Cortez had 26 for Weaver.
Foster had 16 in the first half as the Lady Panthers opened a 41-26 lead. Carter had 16 in the fourth quarter as they closed out the game.
Cleburne County 33, White Plains 32: Shawntavia Boyd scored 10 points and Erykah Ware hit three of her five free throws in the fourth as the Lady Tigers held on for the area victory.
Boyd and Lauren Brown each had six points in the third quarter as Cleburne County pulled away. White Plains had possession for the game-winner in the final seven seconds, but couldn’t get a final shot. The Lady Wildcats’ Shelby Wood led all scorers with 11.
Glencoe 40, Ohatchee 28: Breia Little scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and the Lady Yellow Jackets had balanced scoring in the fourth quarter to keep Ohatchee at arm’s length. Ally McCoy led Ohatchee with 13 points. Madison Hanks was 8-for-8 from the foul line for all her points.
Southside 65, Oxford 52: Kelsey Patterson and Alexis Thompson each scored six points in a 17-point second quarter that put the Lady Panthers out front. For Thompson it was all of her points. Patterson led all scorers with 18.
Ebony Kelley led Oxford with 13 points and nine rebounds. Winter Taylor had 12 points, six assists and two blocked shots. Jordan Smith had eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
