Girls roundup: Lady Jackets’ senior post scores second straight double-double; Jacksonville, Anniston both win
By East Alabama Sports Today
OXFORD — Ebony Kelley continues to live up to her promise to be more assertive on the offensive end.
The senior post, whose primary job is to sweep the boards, scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds – both game highs – Tuesday to help the Oxford girls get past Talladega 57-48.
It was the second straight double-double for Kelley, who made her promise in a team meeting after the Lady Jackets lost an area game to Pell City. She was 6-of-18 from the floor and 11-of-14 at the free throw line.
The Lady Jackets haven’t lost since that team meeting (4-0).
Jordan Smith also had a double-double for Oxford – 10 points, 11 rebounds – and Tremeria Britt scored 12 points. Grace Mitchell came off the bench to grab six rebounds.
“It was a very physical game and I was proud of how we responded,” Lady Jackets coach Tonya Peoples said.
Jacksonville 62, Weaver 33: The Golden Eagles simply aniya-lated the competition. Aniya Jefferson and Aniyah Robinson combined for 38 points and 17-of-22 shooting to get Jacksonville back on the winning track.
