Raven Cooley will remember her Senior Night as the game she tried to score all the points.

Well, it seemed that way.

Cooley scored the first 16 points of the game Thursday night as No. 9 Anniston rolled over White Plains 62-12 in its final regular-season home game of the year.

Cooley was one of six Lady Dawgs seniors honored before the game and then she took over.

She finished with 22 points. She was 8-for-12 from the field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range. She hit two of the 3s in the 16-point opening.

“I wasn’t necessarily trying to score all of them, but I know that’s my job to score so I just basically did what I had to do for my team,” Cooley said. “I really enjoyed playing good since it was our last home game. I just did what my teammates needed me to do.”

The Lady Bulldogs were up 18-0 before Grey Young got White Plains on the board with a 3-pointer. They scored the first 18 points of the second quarter, too, and led 55-7 well into the third quarter.

White Plains scored 12 points; Anniston had 10 players score. In addition to Cooley, Miajah Bullock had 10 points, five rebounds, five steals and six assists. J’Kyra Clemons had four points and 10 rebounds.

The game was important for the Lady Bulldogs on a number of fronts, not of least is re-establishing itself as a top program in town after losing in the semifinals of the Calhoun County Tournament.

“They’ve kind of got a chip on their shoulder,” Anniston coach Eddie Bullock said. “We feel like we’ve got something we need to prove. Were just trying to make sure we turn out a certain intensity level and do what we need to do.

“We felt like we didn’t play our best in the County and we feel like we’ve got to make sure that everybody knows we’re still Anniston basketball. We’re trying to redeem ourselves.”

Jacksonville 54, Clay Central 26: The Golden Eagles appear to have rediscovered the consistency coach Tres Buzan was seeking just in time for the area tournament.

Kyra Williams scored 24 points and two others scored in double figures as Jacksonville shot nearly 60 percent from the floor. The Golden Eagles started fast, opening a 22-3 lead in the first quarter.

“We’ve played well the past two games,” Buzan said. “Hopefully we can keep it going and play with the same effort and consistency going into the area tournament.”

Ataliya Morgan had 11 points for Jacksonville and Aniyah Robinson added 10. Cassie Ragland scored a double-double for the Lady Vols, going for 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Pleasant Valley 52, Glencoe 49: The sixth-ranked Lady Raiders scored their school-record 23rd victory behind Mckinley Parris’ 19 points and 14 from Atleigh Brannon.

The Lady Raiders (23-3) broke out new road uniforms for the occasion, fell behind in the first quarter, but rallied to take the halftime lead. PV led by six in the late stages of the game and the Lady Jackets hit an uncontested 3-pointer in the closing seconds for the final margin.

Saks 53, St. Clair County 41: The Lady Wildcats (23-6) played one of their closest games since returning from their post-Christmas tournament in Florida, but still extended their winning streak to 15 games. Bry Browning led Saks with 22 points, while Jordan Briskey and Tayler Teague each had eight.

Cleburne County 53, Ranburne 47: Shawntavia Boyd scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers held off their visitors. Erykah Ware added 13 for the winners. Jesse Ralston had 22 points for Ranburne with five 3-pointers.
