FAYETTEVILLE – The Lincoln softball team came out of the loser’s bracket to win five games Saturday to repeat as Talladega County Softball Tournament champions.
The Lady Bears finished in a big way. They scored 43 runs on 37 hits over their last three games, beating host Fayetteville 18-2 and 10-0 in the championship doubleheader.
“I told them before we got off the bus I didn’t come down here to play one or two games, I came here to win five to win the county for the second year in a row,” Lincoln coach Rush Rutledge said. “They said, ‘All right, we’ll do it,’ and they did.
“It wasn’t pretty early, but as the day went on we wore it out.”
The Lady Bears (9-4) also beat Munford (2-1), Sylacauga (6-0) and Childersburg (15-0) in the run. Savannah Sands started and won all five games in the circle, including a four-inning no-hitter against Sylacauga. She gave up seven hits, two runs and struck out 15 in 18 total innings on the day.
The Lady Bears batted .409 over the course of the day, .481 over the last three games.
Carlee Mullinax, Victoria Mitchell and Christavia Curry all homered in the first victory over Fayetteville. Mullinax went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Mitchell and Curry each drove in two runs and Kamryn Beasley had two hits.
In the clincher, Sands pitched a one-hitter and was supported by Curry’s three hits and two RBIs apiece by Taylor Houck, Mullinax and Rayanna Powell.
On just Saturday alone, Mullinax was 8-for-15 with seven RBIs, Houck was 7-for-13 with five RBIs and Curry was 5-for-14 with four RBIs.
