Knop, Allison reach semifinals of high school wrestling nationals; Friday night results

VIRGINIA BEACH — Alexandria’s Christian Knop and Weaver’s Caleb Allison both made it to the quarterfinals of the NHSCA National High School Wrestling Championships here Friday.
Knop (cover left), the Valley Cubs’ first AHSAA state wrestling champion, is seeded No. 1 in the freshman 182 division and drew a first-round. He will wrestle Cylus Hoke of Oregon in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Allison (cover right), a defending middle school national champion, won his first match in the freshman 220 division by fall inside one minute. He will wrestle Zach Delvecchio of New Jersey Saturday.
Alexandria’s Fletcher Swindall won a 9-2 decision in his freshman 120 Round of 64 match, but sustained a concussion during the bout and is unable to continue.
Alexandria’s Aaron Whittaker lost his first-round sophomore 132 match in overtime, Lane Trapp lost his senior 113 match by decision and Austin Erdman was pinned in his freshman 113 Round of 64 match.
