Lady Jackets rise in poll

Oxford pulls down No. 2 ranking in ASWA softball poll; Jackets only county team in baseball poll

Oxford’s softball team, recently installed as the top seed in next week’s Calhoun County Tournament, is the highest rated county team in this week’s statewide softball and baseball polls.

The Lady Jackets are ranked No. 2 in Class 6A behind Southside-Gadsden. Both teams are listed with 23 victories. The Lady Jackets were No. 3 last week.

Alexandria, the second seed in the upcoming County Tournament, is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A. Pleasant Valley, the fourth seed, is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A. Piedmont, the third seed, is unranked.

Cleburne County is No. 5 in the 4A softball poll.

Oxford is the only Calhoun County team in the baseball poll, remaining at No. 8 in Class 6A.
