Jake Woodward and Zac Stevens homered and three Alexandria pitchers held Guntersville to four hits as the Valley Cubs won the first game of their doubleheader 6-1 Saturday
Guntersville salvaged a split by winning the nightcap 12-1.
In the opener, Stevens hit a leadoff homer in the home first and Stevens hit a solo homer in the fourth. The Valley Cubs broke it open with a four-run sixth.
Stevens went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Will Reaves had two hits.
Austin Goode, Jacob Heathcock and Taylor Shaddix combined to keep Guntersville in check. Goode struck out six.
The Valley Cubs were held to only four hits in the six-inning nightcap; Riley Shaw had two. Guntersville scored all their runs in the 10 runs in the first three innings.

HEFLIN — Max Watson went 6-for-6 in the doubleheader as the Tigers pounded 26 hits in their two games.
Watson went 2-for-2 in the first game and 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the nightcap.
The Tigers got off to a quick start in the first game, scoring four runs in the first. Brock Swafford, Watson and Jordan Brown all drove in runs in the inning.
Four Cleburne County hitters were perfect at the plate in the nightcap – Watson, Trevor Houston (2-for-2), Jordan Brown (3-for-3) and Austin Harler (3-for-3) – as the Tigers pounded 15 hits. Houston drove in three runs.
Kade Clark pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and walking two. He had three strikeouts.
