JACKSONVILLE — The skies may be threatening, but the Calhoun County Track & Field Championship is on as scheduled Tuesday at Jacksonville State with a one-hour delay.

The meet is set to get underway at 10 a.m.

“We feel the rain will move out of the area quickly but felt it was in the best interest of the event to delay one hour,” Jacksonville assistant principal and meet director Rusty Thrasher wrote to the county principals.

In a virtual meet of the best times/throws/jumps of the season, Anniston is favored to win the boys and the girls meet. Actual results will vary based on performance and event participation.

“I expect both to go out and perform and do well, but somebody else might have a good race or throw, too,” Anniston coach Lisa Howard said. “It’s track and field and anything can happen.

“We’re going to compete, no matter what. I know if they go out and give 100 percent we should be OK. It would be great for us to do that, but my ultimate goal is to have as many kids qualify at the sectional and go to the state meet and my seniors to sign scholarships and go to schools.”

Ohatchee is the county championship host school next academic year and it already has booked the dates for the 2016 cross country and 2017 track championships. The cross country meet is scheduled for Oct. 27 at Oxford Lake and the track championship will be April 18 at the new Choccolocco Park.
