Twelve county high school programs fined a total of nearly $5,000 for 24 incidents during the season; 3 schools fine and ejection free
By East Alabama Sports Today
A dozen Calhoun County high school sports programs were fined nearly $5,000 collectively for violations that occurred during the 2015-16 academic year.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association released a list of all fines and ejections that occurred during the recently completed academic year.
The 12 county schools were fined a total of $4,650 for 24 total infractions. Most of the fines were related to player and coach game ejections, but two schools (Jacksonville Christian and Piedmont) were fined for ineligible players and two (Sacred Heart twice and Anniston) for violations of the championship participation rule.
The Piedmont violation was dated June 8. The AHSAA did not specify a sport involved and no players or coaches were individually identified in its report, but sources familiar with the case identified the athlete as girls basketball player Brooke Perry, who has since transferred to Pleasant Valley and will be eligible for the Lady Raiders in 2017-18.
The Bulldogs are appealing the ruling, which will not involve vacating any county, area, regional or state titles.
The AHSAA, in a news release, said it would have no other comment on the list.
Earlier this year, East Alabama Sports Today reported on the three Calhoun County schools that were fine and ejection free — Wellborn, Saks and Oxford.
