Oxford’s Campbell, three pitchers help Team USA rout Argentina in 12U PanAm opener
PUEBLA, Mexico — Dawson Campbell’s first taste of international experience got off to a rousing start as the the USA Baseball 12U National Team routed Argentina 20-0 in its opener of the COPABE Pan Am “A” Championships.
Team USA scored 16 runs in the first inning and three pitchers combined for a three-inning no-hitter. Campbell, a left-handed pitcher from Oxford, had a hit and two RBIs.
Tyler Avery set the tone for the game in the first inning as he fanned all three batters he faced. Christopher Scinta and Owen Egan completed the gem. Scinta allowed the only two base runners in the game, issuing two walks in the second, but struck out two. Egan punched out one batter and got two nice defensive plays from Kai Caranto in the third to complete the no-hitter.
Team USA sent 19 men to the plate in the first and scored 16 runs. Joe Brown and Nathan Aguilar had RBI singles, Karson Bowen slammed an RBI double and back-to-back errors from Argentina pushed the lead to 6-0. Avery kept the train rolling with a run-scoring double.
Brown, Marcos Rosales, Caranto and Brandon Barriera all homered in the inning.
Team USA play Honduras next, 9:30 a.m. CT Saturday.
