LINCOLN – Former Cleburne County basketball and volleyball coach Doug Ward has approved as a physical education teacher in Lincoln and will become the Golden Bears’ new boys basketball coach.
Ward was approved by the Talladega County school board Tuesday. He will succeed Rush Rutledge, who left the Golden Bears to become assistant principal at White Plains High School.
Ward gave up his coaching duties in both sports at Cleburne County for family reasons last month. He begins at Lincoln Thursday.
“I’m grateful and excited about the opportunity to teach/coach at Lincoln,” Ward told East Alabama Sports Today Tuesday night. “I’m looking forward to joining Coach (Brad) Wallace and the rest of the staff. I’m proud to be a Golden Bear.”
