DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Logan Archer will always remember his first college win.
The former Oxford golfer won his first college tournament in the first event with his new team Tuesday when he closed out medalist honors in the University of North Georgia’s Tri-Match with Young Harris and West Georgia at Achasta Golf Club.
Archer shot rounds of 67, 67 and 70 for three-round total of 12-under-par 204 that broke North Georgia’s 54-hole scoring record by nine shots. The 67s at were the school’s single-round bests.
“It was kind of nice walking down 18 knowing I had the win,” Archer said. “It’s going to open up new doors for me knowing I can get it done and be successful.”
Archer’s previous best individual finish was third last year when he played for West Alabama. He transferred after the program underwent a coaching change.
Young Harris won the event for the second year in a row with a 54-hole score of 850. North Georgia was second with a school-record 868.
After winning on his home course Tuesday, Archer goes for two in a row next week in Montevallo’s Full Moon BBQ Invitational at Timberline – a course he calls “like another home course for me.” His father, Randy, was an assistant pro there.
“I’m very familiar with the course,” he said. “It’s going to be kind of nice coming off a hot streak and playing a course I already know.”
