Friday basketball roundup: Lady Eagles’ fortunates fall depending on well their shots do

BOAZ – Cold shooting doomed Jacksonville in its first game of the day in the Snead State Girls Thanksgiving Tournament, but the Lady Golden Eagles found their range later in the day and salvaged a split of their two games.
The Lady Golden Eagles fell to Gadsden City 58-42 Friday in their first game of the day, but bounced back to beat Cleveland 53-33 in the second.
Jacksonville hit only 14 of 52 shots from the field (26 percent) and made just one of nine 3-point attempts. The Lady Titans, meanwhile, were one shot miss short of 50 percent from the field (22 of 45) and the arc (4 of 9).
Kyra Williams led Jacksonville with 14 points, while Sierra Stone had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Aniya Jefferson grabbed seven rebounds.
Gadsden City’s Haley Troup led all scorers with 22 points, while Brooke Burns had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Burns also dealt five assists.
The Lady Eagles shot 45 percent in the nightcap to beat Cleveland.
Sierra Stone again led Jacksonville with 20 points and 11 rebounds; she was 9-of-10 from the field. Kyra Williams added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.
