OXFORD — Anna Bolton’s 14 points and solid play all over the court helped the Oxford Lady Jackets defeat Childersburg 61-43 Tuesday night at the Oxford Sports Arena.

“Anna played her tail off tonight,” said Oxford coach Melissa Bennett. ”She got us going there in the second quarter and it was good to see the outside shots falling tonight. It is only our third game of the season and I thought we were fantastic tonight.”

Quick starts to the first and second quarters propelled the Lady Jackets to a 28-17 halftime lead. A pair of 3s from Tremeria Britt got the Jackets off to a 9-2 start and Bolton hit a pair of 3s and a two-point bucket from Bolton fueled a 10-2 run to start the second quarter.
Childersburg was unable to come any closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Bolton was 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the second half and Makayla Kidd scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half for the Lady Jackets (2-1).

Kaylee Sanders came off the bench and ripped down a few rebounds in the second quarter that jump-started the Yellow Jacket board play against the taller Tigers.

Sanders finished with five rebounds in the game. Quameria Britt had boards, while Bolton and Justyce Smith had four each.

“We are going to be smaller than almost everyone we play,” said Bennett, who is in her first year as the Lady Jackets’ coach. “Kaylee is called ‘Kay Killer’ in practice. She is very aggressive and plays hard.

“They were a very physical team, but we would not change the way we played and we were able to get the win without having to change what we wanted to do.”
