JACKSONVILLE — Jordan Griswould just likes playing on the big stage.
The Faith Christian forward has played in Jacksonville State’s Pete Mathews Coliseum several times in his career and every time, it seems, he’s had a monumental game.
He had another Saturday in the opening round of the Calhoun County Tournament, going for 32 points in the Lions’ 69-53 win over Donoho. The 11th-seeded Lions now play sixth-seeded and sixth-ranked (5A) Alexandria Monday at 4:30 p.m.
“A big stage, you gotta show up,” Griswould said. “I love being here. I like the big stage. I just wanted to be aggressive and attacking the whole time, and always being relentless.”
Griswould had half his points Saturday in the first three quarters and half in the fourth. And he had half of those fourth-quarter points from the foul line, going 8-of-10.
It’s not the first time he has impressed in this building. In the 2015 TV24 Holiday Showcase here he had 25 points against Fyffe.
“He loves playing in any building, that sucker right there is a gamer; he just brings it,” Faith coach Brad Yarbrough said. “There’s no stage that’s too big for the kid; there’s no such thing as that. He knows how to turn it on and go.
“But his best thing is getting everybody else to feel the same way he does. It’s not rare to see a good player step up and play, but when he can get everybody else on the team to get that same confidence and swagger he has, that’s special.”
Jameson Adams added 12 points for the Lions.
Garrett Steed had 19 for Donoho, 14 in the fourth quarter. Jacob LeCroy had 10.
