CLASS 3A
Glencoe 78, Weaver 63
WEAVER –
Glencoe used a 17-6 run down the stretch to pull away from a game that had been close throughout and earn its first trip to the regionals since 2011.

Weaver started quickly and opened a 16-6 lead, but then Glencoe started connecting on the layups it was missing earlier and cut its deficit to one by halftime. The Yellow Jackets were leading by four when they went on the late run that put away the game.

Cole Holbrooks and Jakeb Amberson led the second-half surge with a combined 25 points; they finished with a game-high 21 and 15, respectively. Robert Gaines led Weaver with 20 points.

DeVaunghn Beason drained five of his team’s 10 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead Saks into the Class 4A Northeast Regional. The Wildcats will play Westminster Christian Monday at 1:30 p.m.

The Wildcats hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter – three by Beason – but get out of it with only a tie. They pulled away in the second quarter behind two of Jamal Stone’s three 3-pointers. Tray Huguley helped stretch the lead with six in the third quarter.

SCOTTSBORO – Dalton Dodd missed the game-tying free throw with 1.8 seconds left after Scottsboro iced him with a timeout to send Scottsboro to the Northeast Regional.

Dodd led Alexandria with 21 points. He was fouled in the act of shooting the potential game-winning 3-pointer in a two-point game. He made the first free throw and was on line but long with the second. Scottsboro called time to ice him and Dodd missed the third after they returned to the court.

The Wildcats play Talladega in the Class 5A regional semifinals Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

KIMBERLY – Davyn Flenord scored 30 points and Joe Bullock added 16 as the Volunteers earned their first trip to the Northeast Regionals since consolidation. The Vols will play Guntersville in the Class 5A regional semifinal Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Flenord scored 24 points in the first half, 15 in the Vols’ 26-point second quarter that gave them control of the game.

TALLADEGA – The Tigers pulled away from a close game by outscoring Corner 41-19 in the second half and getting contributions from throughout the lineup.

Ashton Duncan led the Tigers with 20 points; he and Tra Bolden both hit three buckets in the third quarter . Fred Dickerson had 11 points (eight in the second half) and five assists. Jae-Lyn Russ, had 10 points and nine rebounds, Jarvis McKenzie had five steals and Robert Houston had 10 rebounds.

The Tigers now play Scottsboro in the regional semfinal, Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
