Cold third quarter dooms Talladega girls in Class 5A Northeast Regional semifinal

JACKSONVILLE — The Talladega girls basketball team struggled with cold shooting coming out of the halftime break and couldn’t recover, falling to Arab 59-46 in the Class 5A girls Northeast Regional semifinals Tuesday.
Arab (20-13) will play Mortimer Jordan for the regional championship Thursday at 4 p.m.
After a fast start, the Lady Tigers (24-6) trailed by four at the break and then shot 2-of-9 from the field in the third quarter while getting outscored 17-7. Arab hit 7 of 16 shots in the quarter.
Lauren Watson scored 11 of her game-high 29 points in the quarter for Arab, including a tip-in at the buzzer that gave the Lady Knights a 49-35 lead. They led by 16 in the fourth quarter.
Camille Buckhanon led Talladega with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Gabby Johnson had 15 points and hit the Lady Tigers’ only 3-pointer in 15 attempts
