SYLACAUGA — Munford rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Sylacauga 9-6 and win the Talladega County Tournament for the first time.
The Lions sent 10 batters to the plate in their big inning. Jeffery Threat delivered the big blow, a three-run homer that put the Lions ahead 7-6. They later scored a run on an error and Draven Campbell’s RBI double. Campbell had two hits in the game.
The game ended on a strike-‘em-out/throw-‘em-out double play.
The Aggies reached the title game by beating Childersburg earlier in the day, 5-1.
Sparkman 12, Oxford 6: The Senators rallied for nine runs over the final three innings after Oxford scored five in the fourth to take the lead.
The Yellow Jackets trailed 3-0 going into the fourth when they batted around and used three hits, two errors and a dropped third strike to jump into the lead. None of the runs Oxford scored in the game were earned. As it turned out, six of the Sparkman runs were unearned. The team were charged with 11 errors combined.
Sparkman bounced back from Oxford’s big inning to score three in the fifth to retake the lead, then poured it on with four in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Brennan McCullough was given the start against the Senators and drew a no-decision. He gave up three runs and three hits in three innings.

Oxford pitchers threw two more shutouts Thursday as the Lady Yellow Jackets blanked Hueytown 2-0 and Hayden 1-0.
Rylee Waldrep blanked Hayden on four hits. Haley Lyner drove home the only run of the game in the first inning when she singled home Sarah Howell with the third of four straight singles Oxford had to open the game.
JoJo Skinner held Hueytown to a leadoff single by Morrison leading off the bottom of the fourth and struck out nine.
The Lady Jackets scored a run in the fourth on Lyner’s one-out single and a run in the fifth on Howell’s sacrifice fly.
