First statewide baseball and softball polls are out and seven Calhoun County teams are included

The first statewide baseball and softball polls are out and seven Calhoun County teams are included.
And as usual it brings plenty to talk about.
Top-seeded Calhoun County Baseball Tournament champion Oxford was left out of the Class 6A Top 10, but all three of the other semifinalists and four of the next five tournament seeds did make their respective polls.
Fifth-seeded Alexandria is No. 8 in Class 5A, second-seeded Jacksonville is No. 5 in Class 4A, sixth-seeded county runnerup Piedmont is No. 7 and fourth-seeded Ohatchee is No. 9 in Class 3A.
Jacksonville and No. 2 Cherokee County open an epic early-season area series Friday in Centre. Oxford and Piedmont have a rematch of the county final Friday.
On the softball side, Oxford is No. 2 in Class 6A, Alexandria is No. 3 in Class 5A and Pleasant Valley is No. 8 in Class 3A.
Alexandria hosts Southside, No. 5 in Class 6A, Thursday at 5 p.m.
