Monday’s games: Oxford, Alexandria, Pleasant Valley in action in the Gulf Coast Classic

The Lady Jackets jumped on both teams in the first inning and coasted to double-digit victories.
They scored eight runs in the first inning after two were out against Decatur. The first four runs came home on a bases-loaded walk and three bases-loaded hit batters. Sarah Howell ripped a two-run double and Kaylynn Garrett drilled a two-run triple.
Brentli Champion doubled home a run, while Makayla Kidd and Emily Thrasher singled home two others. Rylee Waldrep pitched all four innings for the win.
They scored six runs in the first inning against Oneonta. Bailey Clark had the big hit of the inning, a two-run double.
The heart of Oxford’s order – Garrett, Haley Lyner, Clark and Amber Dempsey – were a combined 9-for-14 with nine RBIs.
Alexandria 10, Decatur 1
Alexandria 6, Oneonta 2
The Lady Cubs broke open a close game with Decatur with seven runs in the fourth inning. They sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. The first five reached safely and all scored.
Jessica Shaw had two hits and winning pitcher Emmah Rolfe helped her cause with had two RBIs.
Rolfe played a big role in the Oneonta win. The Lady Cubs rallied from a 2-0 deficit with four in the fourth. Rolfe tied the game with a two-run single.In the Oneonta game, the Lady Cubs rallied from a 2-0 deficit with four in the fourth.
Oxford and Alexandria are in the same tournament pool — with Decatur, Oneonta, Clarksville, Thompson and Coffee, Tenn. — but will not play each other in pool play. Alexandria will play Coffee and Thompson Tuesday, while Oxford will play Clarksville and Thompson.
Pleasant Valley 6, Sweet Water 1

In the Sweet Water game, McKinley Parris went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and winning pitcher Olivia Jones gave up one run and three hits. Alisa St. John and Ava Boozer also drove in runs. Courtney Williams hit a three-run homer in the loss to Brewer.
Pleasant Valley is in a pool that also includes Carmel Catholic, South Side, Pinson Valley, Austin and Pisgah. The Lady Raiders play Austin and Pisgah Tuesday.
