White Plains comfortable at home; Oxford sweeps Pleasant Valley; Alexandria, Piedmont, Saks, Lincoln all win

White Plains returned to the friendly confines of its home field and it was if the Lady Wildcats never left.
Ashlyn Hinton drove in five runs with three hits and Shelby Wood went 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Lady Wildcats rolled to an 11-2 area victory over Jacksonville Tuesday.
It was the Lady Wildcats’ second game back on their home field since being allowed back after workers repaired vandalism damage to the facility.
The Lady Wildcats had control of Tuesday’s game from the start. Wood tripled home the game’s first run in the first inning and rode home on a double by Hinton. They extended the lead to 6-0 with a four-run second inning, capped by Hinton’s two-run triple.
Essence Hutchinson, Kayley Sparks and Hannah Stevenson each had two hits for Jacksonville.

Oxford 12, Pleasant Valley 2: Haley Lyner’s three-run double in the second inning put the top-ranked Lady Jackets ahead for good, and she followed it by stealing third and home. Kaylynn Garrett went 3-for-4 with two triples and four RBIs and Sarah Howell went 4-for-4. The game matched the No. 1 (Oxford) and No. 3 (Pleasant Valley) seeds in the upcoming Calhoun County Tournament. The Lady Raiders struck first with two unearned runs in the first.

Oxford 9, Pleasant Valley 0: Rylee Waldrep threw a four-hit, seven-inning shutout and struck out nine. Howell, Garrett and Amber Dempsey all had two hits for the Lady Jackets, while Lyner, Dempsey and Emily Thrasher each had two RBIs. Run-scoring singles by Brentli Champion and Sarah Hicks stakes Oxford to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and Dempsey had a two-run double and Thrasher a two-run single on consecutive at-bats to cap a six-run sixth inning that broke the game open.

Alexandria 10, Etowah 0: Emmah Rolfe pitched a three-hit shutout and was one of four Lady Cubs with two hits. Rolfe went 2-for-2 at the plate. Timberlyn Shurbutt, Madi Snow and Mattie Wade also had two hits, while Alyssa Carrizales, Jessica Shaw, Millie Burt and Leighton Sparks each drove in two runs. The Lady Cubs broke open a scoreless game with nine runs in the fourth inning.

Saks 3, Ohatchee 0: Lanie Dreyer pitched a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and her teammates supported her with single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Annabelle Shelly had two hits for Saks, while Regan Snow and Ashley Doss both went 2-for-3 for Ohatchee.

Piedmont 12, Cherokee County 1: Hannah Hulsizer’s went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Tylin Wilson and Zoee Holcomb both added two hits and two RBIs. Piedmont took the lead for good with two in the third on Wilson’s run-scoring infield out and Kenzie Tolbert’s RBI double. Kayleigh Williams and Amber Raney held the Lady Warriors to three hits.

Lincoln 8, Clay Central 0: Ray Powell gave up only two hits and struck out seven in seven innings as the Lady Bears (21-9) improved to 3-0 in area play. Stay Curry went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Brooke Ferguson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Carlee Mullinax and Kamryn Beasley each had two hits and Victoria Sands had a hit and an RBI.
