White Plains girls prepare for county defense with win at Chesley Oaks; Gadsden City, Cole win at Briarmeade

CULLMAN — The White Plains girls golf team tuned up for the defense of its first Calhoun County Tournament by winning the Chesley Oaks Invitational.
The Lady Wildcats posted a team score of 259, seven shots ahead of Russellville. Arab finished third at 268.
Hanna Dyar shot White Plains’ low score, a 79 that was tied for second individually. Lexee Cunningham and Allison Arenth both shot 90.
Alexandria shot 276, led by Abby Stephens’ 87.
“This was a huge momentum and confidence builder for the girls,” White Plains coach Chris Randall said. “There were tough conditions and the girls handled adversity very well. They’re ready for tomorrow.”
Here are the first-round pairings for the Friday’s first round of the Calhoun County Girls Golf Championship at Pine Hill CC. The field goes off in an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

LINKS AT BRIARMEADE: Glencoe’s Lauren Cole shot 89 to win her second medalist title of the season and Gadsden City posted 318 to win the team title at the Links at Briarmeade Tournament hosted by Glencoe High School.
The Lady Titans were led Haley James’ runner-up 93. Oak Mountain’s Charlie McKinney was third individually with a 95.
Glencoe finished second as a team (345) and Oak Mountain was third (347).
