The Pleasant Valley Raiders put themselves in position to clinch a playoff berth Thursday when Caden McCurdy blanked Glencoe 10-0 to even their area series.
The Raiders won the coin toss and will host Friday’s tiebreaker for the area’s second playoff spot at 5 p.m. Brody Phillips is slated to start on the mound.
“We would have preferred to have taken care of business Tuesday and finish tonight, but this is the hand we’ve been dealt,” PV coach Chris Youngman said. “The guys really played hard tonight and competed with the right mindset.
“We like our guy on the mound and we believe if we come with the same mindset and attitude tomorrow that we did tonight we like our chances.”
Munford 13-8, Saks 6-0: The Wildcats dreams of making the Class 4A playoffs were dashed when Munford rallied from an early 4-0 deficit in the opener and two pitchers held Saks to three hits in the nightcap.

They scored the go-ahead run on Tanner Reeves’ bases-loaded walk. Reaves went 3-for-4 in the game and was one of five Lions to drive in two runs.
In the nightcap, Ethan Bell, who pitched 3.1 finishing the opener, and Dawson Strickland held the Wildcats to three singles – two by Tony Hunley and one by Brandon Ogle. Draven Campbell, Dakota Green and Ethan Swinford each had two hits for the Lions.
The Lions had a 1-0 lead until erupting for five in the third. Zayy Britt delivered the big blow of the inning, driving in three with a fly ball that was misplayed in the field. Britt had two sacrifice flies, one to the wall in center, in the first game.
