JACKSONVILLE — Colin Casey struck out 11 batters in the final game of his high school career and Austin Lackey sent him out a winner with a two-run walk-off single with none out in the bottom of the seventh as Jacksonville edged playoff-bound Piedmont 5-4.
Casey, who’s headed to Jacksonville State next season, gave up four hits, including a leadoff homer to Easton Kirk in the fourth that broke up his no-hitter. He struck out at least one in every inning. Only two of the runs he allowed were earned.
The Golden Eagles trailed 4-2 going into the seventh and needed to make something happen in their last bats if they were going to send their ace out on a winning note.
Casey got the rally started when he led off by reaching on an error. Blake Morris followed with a single, then Mak Curry singled home the tying run. Curry doubled his two previous at-bats and had reached base all three previous times he batted. Lackey followed with his game-winner.
Curry was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs and two runs. Lackey was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kirk had two hits for Piedmont.
