New White Plains volleyball coach has four seniors to anchor her first varsity head coaching job

Candi Cronan is the new volleyball coach at White Plains and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
She takes the spot that had been open after former coach Joi Watts left to Oxford following her marriage to Ken Washington. She already has taken the squad to one team camp and has another one upcoming.
“I coached basketball in the past, around the time I had my babies, and we won the county junior high tournament,” Cronan said. “I realized it was a lot of effort and time away from my (three) girls, so I decided to back away.
“I’ve always loved sports … and I want to see our girls program all-around maintain the level that we have. I just told (principal Andy Ward) I’d give it a go.”
Cronan played four sports at Spring Garden (as Candi Rogers) – volleyball, basketball, softball and track –but turned away from athletics in college to concentrate on academics.
She is no stranger to the White Plains volleyball program. She was the junior high coach and assisted Watts with the JV and varsity teams last year, so she knows the girls and how the program works.
She has a nice core of four seniors coming back — Isabella Pinto, Landry Bussey, Lucy Medders and Rian Chandler.
“I definitely recognize it as a challenge, but I’m up for it and I’m excited for the season,” Cronan said. “I think the girls are, too.”
