Lady Raiders picked by fans to win the Calhoun County Volleyball Tournament
By East Alabama Sports Today
The Calhoun County volleyball coaches installed Pleasant Valley as the No. 1 seed for today’s Calhoun County Volleyball Tournament, and the fans think it’s a pretty good pick, too.
In a fan poll conducted by East Alabama Sports Today over the past three weeks, the Lady Raiders are tabbed as the overwhelming favorite to win the event.
They were 21-2 at the time of the seeding meeting and are currently 34-3 with a 17-1 record against teams from within the county. Among those local victims are No. 2 seed Alexandria and No. 3 seed Jacksonville just this week.
The fans certainly like the Lady Raiders’ chances; nearly 50 percent of the poll respondents picked them. Oxford, the No. 4 seed, came in as the second favorite with 30 percent of the vote. The remaining votes went to Alexandria and Jacksonville.
The matches begin today at 9 a.m. with the semifinals scheduled for 3 p.m. The finals will be staged at Jacksonville State Monday night.
