County teams sent home

All six Calhoun County teams in regional action Thursday eliminated, 5 teams take their shot Friday

Calhoun County had six teams play in the AHSAA volleyball regionals in Huntsville and Montgomery Thursday and that’s where their seasons ended.
Faith Christian, Sacred Heart, Saks, Jacksonville, White Plains and Oxford were all eliminated within the first two rounds of the Class 1A, Class 4A and Class 6A regionals.
Only Faith Christian and Oxford won matches. Two regional wins get you a spot in the state tournament in Birmingham.
Faith defeated Tharptown in the 1A North regionals at the VonBraun Center 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 and won a tight first set from Athens Bible in the second round but lost 26-28, 25-15, 25-11, 25-16.
Sacred Heart was eliminated in the North 1A first round by Phillips, 3-1. The Lady Cardinals won the first set 25-22, then dropped the next three 25-22, 25-21, 25-19.
Oxford bowed out in the second round of the Class 6A North regional. The Lady Jackets beat Homewood 25-21, 25-17, 26-24, and 25-15, 25-13, 25-17.
Shania Vincent had 10 kills for the Lady Jackets in the Homewood match and Emma Connell had 23 assists. Connell had eight assists against Jasper. Alex Hammond had 32 digs in the two matches.
Saks. Jacksonville and White Plains fell in the opening round of their Class 4A regionals.
Saks, playing in the South in Montgomery, lost to Alabama Christian 25-5, 25-12, 26-24. Jacksonville, playing in the North, lost to Deshler 25-19, 20-25, 25-10, 25-21. White Plains, also playing in the North, lost to Wilson 25-11, 25-3, 25-11.
The regionals continue Friday with Alexandria (5A) and Pleasant Valley, Piedmont, Weaver, Wellborn (3A) carrying the Calhoun County banner – all in Huntsville.
