Lady Jackets win second straight game Oneonta tournament; Kidd fills the box score with 17 points, six boards, five steals

ONEONTA – The first week of the new basketball season proved quite productive for the Oxford girls basketball team.
The Lady Jackets won their second straight game Thursday, beating Altamont 63-28, and looked even more impressive doing it.
Senior point guard Makayla Kidd led four Lady Jackets scorers with 17 points; she also had six rebounds and five steals. She was 7 of 17 from the field in the game.
The Lady Jackets pulled away with a big 29-5 second quarter. Kidd had 11 in the quarter and Justyce Smith had eight.
“Our press created good energy,” Oxford coach Melissa Bennett said. “Everyone played and contributed good minutes tonight.
In another tournament game involving a Calhoun County team, White Plains fell to Oneonta 55-28. Oneonta’s Britney Chavez scored 21 of her game-high 22 points in the second half. Freshman Lily Ponder led the Lady Wildcats with seven points.
