Randolph County uses a big first half to jump on Bisons, then cruises to a 42-6 first-round victory

WEDOWEE – Randolph County quarterback Brody Wortham threw two touchdown passes in the first half and the Tigers scored three times in the final 4:30 of the second quarter to spark a 42-6 rout of North Sand Mountain in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Thursday night.
It was the Tigers’ eighth consecutive win.
Wortham completed 3 of 6 passes for 53 yards and found Andrew Prestridge and E.J. Clark for scores.
Aaron Knight rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and Trent Lane rushed for 70 yards and two first-half scores.
The third-ranked Tigers (10-1) were leading 14-0 late in the second quarter when, in the final 4:30, Lane scored his second touchdown, Knight scored and Wortham threw the second of his touchdown passes.
The Tigers scored on six of their seven possessions when the starters were in the game.
Knight kept the game scoreless in the first half when he recovered a Bisons fumble in the end zone on their only drive inside the red zone in the half. The Tigers have held all but one of their opponents to 14 points or fewer this season and have held their last three opponents to a total of 13 points.
The Tigers get the winner of Colbert County-Fultondale in the second round. Fultondale is the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A.
