Alexandria’s Knop wins second most valuable wrestler award, Weaver’s Allison voted best match in Dick Clem Invitational

MADISON – Alexandria’s Christian Knop won his second Most Valuable Wrestler award of the season and Weaver’s Caleb Allison’s 222 final was voted best match highlighting local athletes at Bob Jones’ Dick Clem Invitational Monday.
Knop scored four wins, including two first-period pins, and won the 184-pound title with a 16-0 tech fall over George Francovitch of Bob Jones, the top-ranked 184 in Class 7A.
It raised his record to 36-0 this season (29 pins) and extended his winning streak to 150 consecutive matches. He won MVW honors earlier this year at the Lincoln tournament.
Allison lost the 222 final to Jaeger Clark of Huntsville 3-1, but the match was voted by best of the tournament. Allison won his first four matches with three first-period pins — the first one in nine seconds — and a decision.
Alexandria’s Kaleb Matthews (122) and Aaron Whittaker (154) both finished third in their respective weight classes.
The Valley Cubs finished eighth as a team; Weaver was 10th. Host Bob Jones scored three individual winners, including former Ohatchee and Alexandria wrestler Jim Wilson (108), and had five other finalists and won the tournament by a wide margin.
